My husband and I took our annual winter trip earlier this month. We choose to visit Stowe, VT (which had been on my bucket list for a while) in the dead of winter - to ensure we would see snow. Not only did we see snow but we saw a LOT of it and happened to visit during the record-setting polar vortex. This trip sort of doubled as our babymoon and we truly had such a fun time exploring and keeping warm!
This trip wasn't done on a huge budget - but we did spend more than our usual winter trips. For vacation ideas for two on a budget be sure to visit some of my older travel blog posts. You can find them here!
We flew Delta (booked through Priceline for an even better deal) and had no issues. As usual, we opted for an Airbnb since it was significantly cheaper than the in-town ski resorts. We rented a car suitable for snow and bought groceries and snacks once we got to the Airbnb.
We stayed in Heinsburg, VT which is about 20 minutes from the airport in Burlington, VT. The town of Heinsurg (and basically every town in Vermont) was so charming, small, and quaint. You will not find big box stores, restaurant chains, or much to do in the way of shopping. But there are parks, waterfalls, and outdoor scenes to see everywhere.
Our Airbnb had just gotten new windows and a roof - so the outside was unfinished BUT the inside was so cozy and full of everything we needed!! It was clean, cute, and warm! The host was amazing too. Here is the link to the place we stayed at!
We spent two days in the town of Burlington which was full of a younger college-age dynamic. There were plenty of farm-to-table dining options and lots of fun places to get local beers and wines. We wanted to explore more of the outside area in this town but it was well below -10° (wind chill had it closer to -35°) so we had to opt for staying indoors.
We did get to spend one day in the picturesque town of Stowe. Located about 50 min from our place in Heinsburg we simply drove in for a day and explored the entire time. We hiked to a snow-covered waterfall, walked Main Street, took the ski gondola up to the top of Mt. Mansfield, had lunch at the Trapp Family Lodge, explore the resort at Spruce Peak, and watched skiing and snowboarding. I would LOVE to go back and stay in the Ski In - Ski Out resorts - they were stunning!
Stowe was really a gem and is a MUST-do if you visit Vermont. We did not get to do the Ben & Jerry's Factory Tour - but I have heard that is a great experience too.
We had such a fun time exploring in the snow! I am DYING to visit Vermont / New England in the fall now!!
